-The island nation of Tuvalu was assigned the two-letter "top level
domain" internet identifier of ".tv". They sold it for $45 million.
-U.S. controlled, "Wake Atoll", has fewer than 200 residents and is
completely controlled by the U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense
Command.
-In an effort to corner the phospate market, the United States passed
the Guano Islands Act of 1856, which read in part:
"...Whenever any citizen of the United States discovers a deposit
of guano on any island, rock or key, not within the lawful
jurisdiction of any other government and not occupied by the citizens
of any other government, and takes peaceable possession thereof, and
occupies the same, such island, rock or key may, at the discretion of
the President, be considered as appertaining to the United States..."
-The U.S. territory, "Johnson Atoll" has 200 residents who, until 4
years ago, kept busy by destroying weapons aresenals including mines,
missiles, mortars, rockets, bombs and VX nerve gas.
-The independant nation of Niue has one Member of Parliament for every
65 citizens.
